FRIGAIR 2025: HERVAC Systems Enable Data Centre Growth

Growth in the Data Centre and IT Infrastructure market is directly reliant on heating, energy, refrigeration, ventilation and air conditioning (HERVAC) systems which provide the most critical functions in any data centre operation.

The South African Institute of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning’s (SAIRAC) flagship event FRIGAIR 2025 will profile approximately 150 leading HERVAC companies that play a vital role in the data centre and IT infrastructure markets. Taking place during 4-6 June 2025 at Gallagher Convention Centre, Midrand, the event will showcase the latest products, technologies and developments enabling data centre growth.

Data centre integrated HERVAC systems are responsible for mitigating the large amounts of heat generated by data centre equipment to prevent overheating, failure and downtime. Air ventilation systems manage airflow, pressure and contaminant removal. HERVAC systems utilise specialised precision cooling systems designed for 24/7 climate control specific to the application. Humidity control is also of utmost importance to prevent static, condensation and corrosion which could negatively affect IT infrastructure.

Daikin South Africa, a global leader in climate control solutions, plans to leverage the FRIGAIR platform to demonstrate its evolution beyond air conditioning and establish itself as a comprehensive HVAC supplier that delivers complete comfort solutions across various industries. Industry professionals and stakeholders at the event will have the opportunity to explore Daikin’s diverse data centre solutions that ensure high-performance cooling solutions that protect vital technology infrastructure.

Cooling is one of the largest operational costs in a data centre, contributing 30-50% to total energy costs. Optimised HERVAC systems can improve overall energy efficiency, lowering operational costs. Data centre HERVAC systems also need to be highly reliable to ensure maximum uptime and minimum downtime.

Climetal S.L., a European specialist in microchannel heat exchangers designed for the HVAC sector, will mark its entrance into the Southern African market at FRIGAIR 2025. From compact rooftop units to large-scale chillers, Climetal’s solutions are engineered to deliver high performance, energy efficiency, and reduced refrigerant charge. The company aims to support local equipment manufacturers and system integrators with tailor-made HVAC components that combine European engineering precision with application-specific flexibility in thermal solutions.

Rickard Air Diffusion is excited to be showcasing it’s new and improved MLM+ Electronic VAV Multi-loop Diffusers and Bluetooth Electronic VAV Standalone Diffusers at this year’s FRIGAIR 2025. The company will also introduce the new Bluetooth VAV Diffuser that is simpler, requires no setup, gives accurate temperature and setpoint control and comes with its own app.

SAIRAC free-to-attend workshop programme

FRIGAIR 2025 is perfectly positioned to showcase these latest breakthroughs, cutting-edge solutions, and forward-thinking technologies that are driving transformation in the HERVAC sector. The event will also include the SAIRAC workshop programme where leading industry experts will share the latest innovations, industry trends, international best practices and legislative standards.

In this regard, workshop attendees will have the opportunity to hear from application engineer at Thermal Management, Vertiv, Michael Young, on the Design of Data Centres for Optimal Energy Efficiency. Young will discuss how the implementation of artificial intelligence has resulted in the demand for more computing power, which in turn has resulted in higher data centre cooling requirements. To fill the void, liquid cooling has been implemented within the data centre space to accommodate the development of artificial intelligence. Young will discuss how this liquid cooling technology works and what design parameters make this technology viable. Attendees will also hear from consulting engineer at Thermologika, Jannie Potgieter, about Optimising CO Systems for Enhanced Cooling and Heating Efficiency.

FRIGAIR 2025 is the ideal environment to discover the latest innovations, advanced technologies and future- ready solutions for all those looking for the best in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and energy products and services.
